How not to fly a remote control helicopter that doesn't belong to you

Gav & my cousin Brad were playing with Brad's remote control helicopter off the back deck. As you can see, things did not end well for the helicopter. :)

Cuddles from Sam

I love this boy. On the beach Easter Sunday evening. He was loving his cuddles with Auntie Cassie. I miss him already :(

North of Perth

Image
Gav & I got to spend 3 days up on my Auntie's farm in Geraldton, about 350 km north of Perth. We spent a day up in Kalbarri enjoying the national park and gorgeous coastal scenery & drove home via the Pinnacles in Nambung National park. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. We are off to Gold Coast to catch up with Jen & Brad (my cousin & his wife) for a quick weekend and then 5 days in Melbourne with Gav's family...and then sadly, back to work. Reality is harsh! Enjoy the pics.

Margaret River area

Image
After a rather drunken evening with the Penrhos ladies, Gav and I headed south for the gorgeous wine area of Margaret River. Gav was a bit disappointed to find out that Margaret River, contrary to what the surf competition might suggest, is actually not right on the beach; it is a few km's inland. We stayed at a gorgeous spot, overlooking natural bushland, with kangaroos in our front yard. We ate lots, drank lots and had beautiful weather. We spent a day on a winery tour bus, a much better option than trying to decide who was to drive and not drink, visited both Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin lighthouses, and visited one of the many caves in the area. The lighthouse at Cape Naturaliste barely survived a very bad bushfire just 2 months before our visit, so we couldn't walk the property around it, we could only go straight to the lighthouse and up to the top. It's quite a small lighthouse actually. As opposed to Cape Leeuwin lighthouse which is closer to 100 feet tall. It ...

Old & new Penrhos

Image
My boarder friend Anna and I went back to Penrhos for a little visit of our old home. Wow, how things have changed. Instead of a cubicle with curtain for door, no heat or AC and very little common space, the new boarding house has individual rooms with doors and independent heat and AC and heaps of space. Crazy!!! Mind you, the fees have doubled since we were at school, so change does come at a price.

Homemade caramel slice with note from 6 year old chef

Image
This was caramel slice made by my friend's gorgeous 6 year old daughter, who wrote us a very lovely note to go with it. Note that Gavin is the one with the really big head; she has never met Gav, just assumed that he's a boy, so his head must be bigger than mine!

Where to from here?

It has occurred to me I've posted quite a few pics, but haven't really told you all what I've been up to. Gav arrived yesterday but before he got here I was staying with friends and catching up with lots of other friends here in Perth. Gav and I are off to my mini Penrhos reunion tonight and will be headed for Margaret River down South tomorrow morning. We will be there 3 days, then up to Aunty Yvonne's farm in Geraldton till Saturday. I'm not sure how our internet will be in Margaret River but I am more excited about 3 days in the country, visiting wineries (with designated drivers!) and just relaxing with Gavin. So, that being said....see you all in a few days! (Online that is :)

Old & new Penrhos

Image
L-R 1. My fellow boarder at Penrhos College (my high school) Anna & myself in front of the senior house. 2. The new rooms, with doors & individual AC & heat!!! 3. My last cubicle I lived in at Penrhos. Note curtain for door & wall that only went up 7 feet to the neighbour's cubicle. How did we live in such conditions!!

More Aussie goodness

Almost all Australia Post (re. USPS) is delivered via motorcycle. How much smarter is that? Quicker and more economical, I would think. Packages are delivered by truck.

Scenes around Perth

Image
Cottelsoe Beach, perfect spot for lunch from Red Rooster (best chicken in Oz) under the shade of a coolabah tree, ok, I don't know what the tree was, but couldn't resist the Waltzing Matilda line. Gav in one of Perth's landmarks, London Court! Pedestrian mall dressed up like Old England. Looking down to the lobby of our hotel from inside the glass elevator, The Intercontinenal at Burswood. The view of Perth and the Swan River from our hotel room, not too shabby I think....

The Old Raffs Hotel & more Australian yumminess

Image
Australians are amazing at finding creative uses for passionfruit in their diets. This is one of my favourites, passionfruit soft drink. Yummy! This is the original Raffle's Hotel which used to be a bikie bar, and is now a very swanky pub with very fancy apartments behind it, where I am staying with friends, thanks guys!
